No Motivation To Work – 8 Tips To Survive Working From Home

Feel you have no motivation to work? Here are 8 excellent tips for staying motivated when working for home (so you can keep your motivation high!)

Are you working from home and finding it REALLY hard to stay motivated?

If so, join the club.

We all have probably quickly worked out that often there is more structure to your day when you work in an office.

In an office environment, your day might already be planned out, with your coworkers giving you social interaction and your boss giving you accountability.

However working from home is much different.

But that doesn’t mean it can’t be just as rewarding!

So the question is how can you get work done without any of the help that you would normally receive from coworkers?

Try these techniques to stay motivated and be productive:

NO MOTIVATION TO WORK

TIP # 1 – Wake up early.

Think of it like this: When you’re working from home, you’re still going to work, but the commute to your desk is much shorter.

Set your alarm and make an effort to get up and get ready for an early start.

  • You may find that you’re more productive earlier in the day, as your mind may be sharper.

TIP # 2 – Get dressed.

However tempting it is to work in a pair of comfortable sweatpants or pyjamas, you may be more productive in regular clothes.

  • Research has shown that how you dress sends psychological signals, so if you want to get work done, it’s important to dress appropriately.
  • No pyjamas my friend if you can avoid it (mmm except I do love my pyjamas!)

Wake up and get ready just like you’re going to work. If you stay in your slippers all day you will not be as productive. Elijah Schneider

TIP # 3 – Have your own workspace.

Setting aside a regular space to work sends a signal to your brain to work whenever you’re in your workspace.

Plus, having your own workspace will help keep distractions to a minimum.

This means yes it is easier to work from a desk rather than lying in bed all day with your laptop.

TIP # 4 – Create a schedule.

A work schedule also helps to motivate you, get you going each morning, and be more productive while you work.

With a schedule, you’ll know what to get started on the moment you sit down to work.

Then, you can depend on it to guide you throughout the rest of the day.

  • The cool thing is you get to decide on what this schedule is. Your schedule will depend on your own job, but, for example, if you were a blogger, you might write in the morning, before editing and posting the content in the afternoon.
  • If you have meetings throughout the day you will need to schedule them accordingly. Make sure to give yourself a break too and include it as part of your schedule.

TIP # 5 – Take time to exercise.

Set aside some time each day to get some exercise.

Regular exercise is good for both your body and mind.

  • Most office jobs are pretty sedentary but working from home may be even worse. After all, you only need to travel a few feet to visit the restroom and there’s no walking to your office block from your bus or car.
  • With this in mind, it’s important to ensure that you take extra care to look after your physical needs. It doesn’t have to be anything too complicated. Maybe you can take a quick walk around the block while listening to a podcast.
  • Or run up and down your stairs a few times. Or grab a jump rope and jump. Or even do some squats and jumping jacks when you take your break just to get your blood flowing and energy flowing again.

TIP # 6 – Reward yourself.

You and I both know it’s true.

When you’re working from home, it would be super easy to just sit in front of the television all day and not get any work done.

But for obvious reasons this is not the best idea (resist that temptation!). You can bypass such temptations by using rewards to increase productivity.

For instance, you could work for two hours straight and then reward yourself with a short, 30-minute episode of your favorite show or the chance to read a good book.

Technically we all need to take breaks when we are working and the beauty of working from home is that we can make these breaks as rewarding as we like.

TIP # 7 – Go outside.

New alert: not leaving your house for days on end can negatively impact your mental health.

Not only is sunlight good for your health but seeing and interacting with others is important too.

I know this is obvious but it is so easy when you are working from home to fall into this trap of getting too comfortable with not leaving the house.

But here’s the thing: your mood will be uplifted, and you’ll get more work done after a short break for getting out into nature and socializing with others.

That’s something that we WAHM need to be really conscious of incorporating into our schedules – some downtime outside of the home.

NO MOTIVATION TO WORK

TIP # 8 – Avoid social media.

If you find yourself browsing Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram instead of working, you can take steps to avoid these distractions.

  • Try deleting these bookmarks from your browser or installing a plugin that will block you from visiting those sites.
  • Turning off notifications on your smartphone while you work also helps to stop distractions.
  • Even better, keep your phone away from you, in another room.

All in all, working from home isn’t for everyone, but if you love the freedom of making your own schedule, then you may love it.

I know I do.

I can’t think of anything better than having the ability to earn a good income without ever leaving the comfort of my own home (unless it’s to socialize and take breaks!)

So if you are looking for tips on how to stay motivated while working from home, consider following these tips to stay productive, maintain discipline, feel inspired and get all of your work done while working from home.

I honestly see it as an amazing gift!

Look at the sky. We are not alone. The whole universe is friendly to us and conspires only to give to those who dream and work.
