Whether you’re saving for a new car or a down payment on a house, budgeting in this current economy can be tough! I swear, basic necessities keep getting more expensive, while our wages keep getting smaller and smaller.
Luckily for all the couples out there, you do have the option of downloading a budgeting app to keep you accountable during your saving journey.
Now, while there are so many apps available to people in the app store, many don’t really help when it comes to budgeting. Luckily for you, I am here to save the day and let you in on the best budgeting apps for couples. Now before I go out on a tangent, let’s get right into it!
What is a budgeting app?
Before we get started, let’s sort out what precisely a budgeting app is! A budgeting app is a programmed software that allows you to track your spending, make savings goals, and notify you when you have upcoming bill payments to make.
You can typically download these on your phone for easy access or onto your computer as well! You can even set up your and your partner’s accounts to keep track of both your savings and keep each other accountable if you want!
1. Mint by Intuit
Mint by Intuit is a free budgeting app that has been available to the public for years now. This app allows you to sync up your bank accounts with your partner and create different saving goal categories with ease.
The app will send both you and your partner a notification when you have upcoming bills. Hence, both of you stay on top of paying everything off as soon as possible.
The app also can notify you when you have been spending too much and have low funds in your accounts, which is perfect for when you are trying to keep yourself accountable when saving money.
2. Pocket Guard
Pocket Guard is a fantastic budgeting app; however, you are going to have to drop some money first to be able to use the app if you want to use all of its features. While this app does come in a free version, you can also pay for the premium version for $34.99 annually.
The Pocket Guard App allows you and your partner to synch your bank accounts, loans, credit cards, and any investments. Hence, you are both able to track what is going on in terms of your money.
A great feature of this app is calculating how much money you have to spend during each day or event such as date night. The app also has the ability to track your spending and tell you where you are spending your money the most.
If you want to pay for the premium app, you will be granted access to additional features such as the ability to customize your own spending categories for the month.
The Zeta app is also free for users to download. The app itself lets you set up both your accounts and keep separate accounts as well if you wish.
You can also filter what your partner does and does not see on your own personal account (which I would personally do to hide all of my Sephora purchases). Zeta lets you synch all your banking information to the app, or you can choose to manually update your budget if you wish.
A cool feature of your app which is perfect for couples who like to split the bill on a night out or one an item is the ability to split transactions directly on the app, which will transfer money to the other person’s account.
4. Personal Capital
Personal Capital is another excellent app for couples who are looking to seriously save for their future. The app allows you to keep tabs on your day to day spending and tracks how much you have in your retirement fund.
You can also receive information that is dedicated to your mortgages. One of the best features of this app is that although the app is free to download, users are able to receive wealth management services with a financial advisor.
Users are able to purchase the app for $129.99 annually or purchase the free version on the app store. The app itself has excellent reviews from previous users and also an ad-free experience.
If you do end up opting to purchase the paid version, users will be able to sync their bank accounts to the app.
The app itself was made by famous financial figure Dave Ramsey and offers excellent budgeting tips for those who are willing to pay the $129.99 upfront.
Honeydue is also an excellent free budgeting app that is available for couples. The app allows you to track all of your spending and all your savings through the app.
The app also conveniently notifies you when all of your bill payments are due as well!
Stash is another great budgeting app that is available on the app store. The only downside to this app is that you have to pay for it in order to use its services.
The app costs $9 a month, which is relatively cheaper than the other budgeting apps on the list.
The Stash app allows you to pay your bills and track all of your monthly transactions; however, the couple doesn’t have the option of synching both of their bank accounts onto one app.
8. Tiller Money
Tiller money provides you with daily spreadsheets to see each other spending, and you are able to link your bank account and credit card to Google Sheets to save all your financial tracking data.
The app allows you to have a 30-day free trial. However, afterward, it will be $6.58 a month to use the app.
This is another great budgeting app for couples! Goodbudget uses virtual envelopes that allow you to allocate them as different savings goals.
You can use the free version and get 20 different envelopes, or the paid version where you get unlimited envelopes! Goodbudget app features a debt-free tracking that makes it easy for you and your significant other to track your debt payments and see how far you are from paying off your loans.
The only downside of this is that it does not sync to your bank accounts so you can’t track your spending in real-time, you have to update it afterwards.
The free version also only allows you to use the app on two devices, whereas the paid version which is $6 a month allows you to have the app on five devices. Overall, Goodbudget is still a decent couples budgeting app to look out for!
This budgeting app gives me feels. Seriously you guys, how cute is the name! BetterHaves is a budgeting app that is specifically made for couples to use! Hence the name, duh!
Couples are able to allocate a certain amount of money to different areas of their life a month and track their bank accounts on a day to day basis.
By allocating a specific amount of money to a particular area of your life a month, you are able to keep you and your partner accountable for your spending habits.
You also have the ability to track your spending individually or separately, depending on your preferences!
This budgeting app offers users a 30-day free trial to test out their services. Afterward, you are required to pay a fee of $2.99, which is not bad at all compared to what you would need to pay to use the EveryDollar app!
This app tracks and learns your personal spending habits and will consider your upcoming bills, everyday purchases for the month, and the minimum amount of money you need to put into your savings account in order to save money for the month!
With this app, you will never miss a beat when it comes to savings!
12. Clarity Money
Clarity Money is another one of the best budgeting apps for couples. Users can link their banking apps onto the platform, organize their expenses, track their spending habits, and check their credit scores as well.
The nice thing about this app is that it is free, and it does offer a decent set of features compared to others on the list.
YNAB stands for You Need A Budget –just in case you’re wondering, friends! YNAB offers the ability to make monthly, weekly, and yearly budgets that you can synchronize across various devices, so you have your goals with you at all times.
You can also link your bank accounts, manage payments, bills, and track how much you are spending on a month on different categories that you can choose within the app.
When downloading the app, you are offered a 34-day free trial. Once the trial ends, you will need to pay $11.99 a month or a lump sum or $84 if you want to continue to use their services.
Trust me, friends, when it comes to budgeting and saving, I think we can all agree that it can sometimes (a lot of the time) be super hard to stay on track and keep yourself accountable.
However, with any one of the budgeting apps that I have listed today, you and your partner will be well on your way to saving some big bucks in the year 2022! It’s time we all took accountability for our finances that we let slip through the cracks this year.
2022 is our year, my friends! Let’s get our lives back together and start saving towards our future productively and effectively! I promise it’s totally going to be worth it in the long run!
Until next time my friends!
