Stop Wasting My Time – 6 Online Apps That Hurt Your Productivity

Stop wasting my time

Are you sick and tired and just want to know “how to stop wasting my time?”

Here’s the perfect post for you with 6 online apps that hurt your productivity (consider yourself warned!)

Apps are fun and cool, right, which is why they’re so addictive and popular.

Yet while many apps are useful time-savers (yay!), others are quite the opposite.

All they do is lower your productivity. These are obviously the ones you want to avoid.

Now if you already feel like you don’t have enough time in the day, it doesn’t make sense to spend time on things that have minimal value, right?

It takes discipline not to let social media steal your time. Alexis Ohanian

If you’re not gaining knowledge, connections or money, you’re wasting your time. Kimberly Jimenez

We say we waste time, but that is impossible. We waste ourselves. Alice Bloch

If you have identified that an app is hurting your productivity, it may be time to turn that app off or remove it from your device.

At the very least, you will want to focus on your work FIRST and when you finally take a short, timed break, you can play for a few minutes.

Here are a few online apps that probably hurt more than they help:

STOP WASTING MY TIME

TIP # 1 Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat

I promise you, you don’t need to know what your favorite celebrity is up to EVERY SINGLE MINUTE OFF THE DAY.

Nope.

There is more value to be gained from focusing on your own life.

Same goes for catching up on what your old friend from high school (who you haven’t seen for years and year) just had for lunch?

Do you really, really care or need to know that info?

Is it important to know what other people are eating, doing, thinking and feeling all the time?

Really, really? (In case you haven’t guessed, the answer is NO.)

STOP WASTING MY TIME

TIP #2 – Any kind of messaging app such as Whatsapp, Viber and Messenger.

Messenger apps just make it easy for people to interrupt what you’re doing.

You may jump at the chance to take a little break and, before you know it, 30+ minutes have passed.

This is so easy to happen!

My best advice is that you don’t log into these things unless you’re done working for the day.

Even at night, it would be better to just get on the phone and talk like a real person, rather than getting sucked into an endless text conversation.

Real conversations are quicker and more satisfying.

STOP WASTING MY TIME

TIP # 3 – Email notifications.

Email can be a great tool but unfortunately it can also be a huge waste of time.

I know this from personal experience as I get hundreds of emails every day.

My best advice is to check your email once in the morning and once at night, rather than constantly throughout the day.

Another recommendation is to turn off your email notifications.

The last thing 99% of the population needs to see is an email notification every 5 minutes, because then you just know that you have to check it.

Avoid the temptation to check by switching it off. It will probably drive you nuts until you finally cave and see what’s going on.

  • Many highly efficient and successful people make it a point to check their email no more than twice a day.
  • Most only check it once a day. Some only check it a couple of times a week. They have better things to do, and you could, too, with a more efficient system.

TIP # 4 News Blogs.

Good blogs are highly interesting and informative (obviously – I have a few!)

Nonetheless I still recommend giving yourself a time limit when it comes to cruising the Internet and reading blog posts.

Don’t just cruise along aimlessly.

If it is helping you solve a struggle or pain point, excellent, soak it up! If not it may be better for you to prioritize your time better.

STOP WASTING MY TIME

TIP # 5 – Facebook.

Mmm this is another rabbit hole that it is so easy to get sucked into.

Sure, it can be a great way to keep in touch, but it’s much like Twitter and Instagram: 99% of the stuff you’re exposed to is unnecessary fluff.

Sure it’s fun to see other people having fun but is it really?

How much value is that truly bringing into your life, watching people post their photos?

Is this how you really want to be spending your time?

You have your own life to live rather than watching other people live theirs.

  • Again, set some limits and strive to stay within them. Also consider limiting the number of “˜friends” that you have. No one has 500 real friends.

STOP WASTING MY TIME

TIP # 6 – Social bookmarking sites.

Websites like Digg, Delicious, Reddit, and other bookmarking sites are also great tools for finding articles, and sites related to your interests.

Just be careful how much time you’re spending on them.

It’s easy to be fed 1,000 interesting sites every day.

It’s also easy to burn a lot of time on them. Just be mindful of the amount of time you spend on these sites.

have to admit, apps can definitely be entertaining when you are looking for time to waste.

But do we really have time to waste?

Please do your best to spend more time on the things that matter and less time on the things that don’t.

Life is short, my friend

Focus on what you want to get done each day and avoid letting such apps steal away your precious time that you could be using to make your dreams come true.

Time = Life. Therefore waste your mind and waste of your life or master your time and master your life. Alan Lakein

I do not want to waste any time. And if you are not working on important things you are wasting time. Dean Kamen

If you love life, don’t waste time for time is what life is made up of. Bruce Lee

The fundamental level of success is doing the hard things first. If you go for the feared thing first, then the rest of the day is easy. Robert G. Allen

A man who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life. Charles Darwin

Your time is limited so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. Steve Jobs
